- <p> DIED. ROSE TOTINO, 79, creator of an eponymous line of frozen
- pizzas; in Rochester, Minnesota. Totino saw the potential in
- a new cuisine craze and in 1951 she and her husband opened one
- of the first pizza restaurants in the Midwest. They got a $1,500
- loan by using the family car as collateral and baking the loan
- officer his first pizza. By 1975, she was chairman of Totino's
- Finer Foods, Inc., the top frozen-pizza maker in the '70s. The
- same year, she sold her concern to Pillsbury for $22 million
- and became that company's first woman vice president. Her achievements
- earned induction into the Frozen Food Hall of Fame and the ultimate
- validation of celebrity, an Annie Leibowitz photo-portrait.
- Totino contributed generously to schools and the arts.
